B.A.P meets with defeaning response in Singapore Press Conference

B.A.P was greeted with a hot response from fans when they appeared for the open press conference at City Square Mall on August 7. The group was in town for their Live On Earth 2013 tour, which will be held at Star Theatre on August 8.

Fans filled up all 4 floors of the mall, peering to get a closer look at the 6 charming boys. Some queued as early as morning hours to secure a good spot for the 7.30pm press conference.

B.A.P’s popularity was unquestionable. The loud screams from their fans throughout the press conference made it almost impossible to decipher the Q&A session going on onstage.

This being their second time in Singapore(the first as guest artistes for labelmate SECRET), BAP expressed their happiness upon returning. Other than the greenery and cleanliness of the country, Leader Bang Yongguk pointed out the beauty of their BABY fans and thanking them for their love thus far.

With their recent ‘BADMAN’ comeback, the 6 boys were asked to vote for the ‘bad man’ and ‘good man’ of the group. Himchan was eventually nominated as the bad boy whilst Leader Yongguk won the title of the good one.

Fans can look forward to an amazing set of performances with powerful choreography as well as be treated to their new comeback songs.

Record Labels YG, SM, JYP, Star Empire Demand Investigation Of Illegal Tampering With Pop Charts Through Digital Streaming Data The record labels YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment and Star Empire Entertainment filed a bill of indictment with the Seoul Supreme Prosecutors' Office.

The record labels YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment and Star Empire Entertainment filed a bill of indictment with the Seoul Supreme Prosecutors’ Office demanding an investigation into companies paid to manipulate digital music streaming numbers to increase the chart position of South Korean pop acts, on Wednesday.

The labels allege that the digital streaming music scam is a million dollar-a-year industry, according to the website TENASIA.

And the record labels claim their business is increasing.

“[The music streaming data manipulation] must be stopped before agencies which properly release digital albums are at a disadvantage, and the public loses faith,”

a YG Entertainment rep said, according to the website allkpop.

“[The entire] digital music business needs to work together and a preventative measure must be put in place to prevent these illegal acts.”

“The manipulation which hurts agencies that release and distribute music fairly and tarnish the faith in digital music sites has to be immediately stopped,” read an official JYP Entertainment statement from Wednesday.

“All digital music businesses must work together to arrange a system to prevent the corruption of music businesses and manipulation of digital numbers.”

After the bill of indictment had been filed, record labels Cube Entertainment and FNC Entertainment expressed solidarity with the crackdown on agencies profiting on tweaking digital streaming data.

“We are together with SM, YG, JYP, and Star Empire on the problem that chart manipulation creates an illness in the music industry,” Cube Entertainment executives said in an official statement on Wednesday.

“With this, we hope that the music industry will become a proper market.”

FNC Entertainment also released an official statement expressing their support.

“With this [potential investigation] we hope that the chart manipulation becomes cleared,” the statement read. “We hope to create a healthy music market through fair competition.”

One employee of a digital music provider offered an example of just how easy it is to manipulate digital streaming data.

“It normally takes four minutes to listen to a whole song, which means the maximum playing time for that song would be 360 a day,” the employee explained.

“But our recent monitor found that a certain user listens to a particular song 1,000 times a day and even 10,000 times a day.”

Rain’s service questioned

Even though the Ministry of National Defense has announced plans to dissolve the Defense Media Agency's public relations support unit - where enlisted celebrities served as so-called "entertainment soldiers" - debate is still swirling about the controversial program

Rain's service questioned

Even though the Ministry of National Defense has announced plans to dissolve the Defense Media Agency’s public relations support unit – where enlisted celebrities served as so-called “entertainment soldiers” – debate is still swirling about the controversial program. Some are even calling for celebrities who have already served as entertainment soldiers to be required to re-enlist and perform their military service again.

The latest debate is over 10 former entertainment soldiers who reportedly did not properly complete the paperwork to join the special unit. But one name mentioned is much bigger than the others – Rain, the singer and actor whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon.

Rain was discharged from the military last month, but before he left his name was mentioned in a controversial TV documentary about inappropriate behavior among entertainment soldiers.

Two other entertainers, Seven and Sangchu, were caught drinking and going to an illegal adult massage parlor in Chuncheon, Gangwon. Although Rain was not with those celebrities, he did perform at the same event earlier in the day.

Now, however, Rain is being pulled into this new controversy over his application to the public relations support unit.

To be selected for the entertainment unit, celebrities had to present their career histories, detailing the TV programs and movies they starred in and music they released. In addition, the celebrities were asked to submit a letter of recommendation by any relevant association.

Kim Kwang-jin, opposition Democratic Party lawmaker, says that Rain benefited from his fame and was chosen as an entertainment soldier even though he did not complete the full application.

The lawmaker also added on Tuesday that requiring soldiers who had problems with their enlistment to serve again was “righteous”. He cited the case of the singer Psy, who, long before his “Gangnam Style” days, had to serve in the military a second time as a full-time solider because he spent too much time working on his career and performing during his first stint.

However, the Ministry of National Defense says it not considering requiring Rain to serve again.

“Rain is a top singer known by almost everyone in Korea”, said Kim Min-seok, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, adding that his performances and contributions to the music industry are widely known and did not require additional proof. “That’s why some of the documents were not collected prior to his enlistment, but that is not enough to make him serve his military duty again”.

Rain was enlisted in October in 2011 and started as an assistant drill instructor. But he moved to serve with the Defense Media Agency from March 2012 until he was discharged last month.

‘There Are No Reasons For Rain To Re-Enlist Himself’ Ministry Of Defense Rep Says: Congressman Kim Backs Down

'There Are No Reasons For Rain To Re-Enlist Himself' Ministry Of Defense Rep Says: Congressman Kim Backs Down A South Korean congressman that was calling for Rain (pictured) to re-enlist in the army, because of the preferential treatment the K-pop singer was given, has backed down on his demand.

A South Korean congressman that was calling for Rain to re-enlist in the army, because of the preferential treatment the K-pop singer was given, has backed down on his demand, his representative told the Korea Daily Star on Thursday.

In the wake of last month’s scandal that led to the elimination of the Ministry of Defense’s Promotional Support Brigade and the incarceration of seven soldiers serving as PR agents, Congressman Kim Kwang Jin raised the issue in South Korea’s Parliament on Wednesday of whether there should be additional punishments handed down to Rain and nine other soldiers.

“During the selection for PR agents, about 10 of them were recruited with incomplete or no paperwork at all,” Kim said.

“That is a fact, so the 10 of them should re-enlist.”

The following day, Kim’s representative denied that the congressman was calling on Rain, and the nine other soldiers who received preferential treatment in their enlistment, to re-enlist.

“An audit was recently done on the recruitment details of PR agents, and Congressman Kim had seen the results of the report,” the representative said.

“He did not insist that the PR agents in question should re-enlist. He only raised the question, and hopes that the Ministry of Defense will get to the bottom of it and do something.”

Yet a Ministry of Defense spokesperson brushed off the idea of Rain needing to serve additional time in the military.

“There’s no need and there are no reasons for Rain to re-enlist himself in the army,” the spokesperson said.

“Rain enlisted for the army and was assigned to an active unit. He was then transferred to the PR unit [promotional support brigade] unit before completing his mandatory service as scheduled. Although he did flout the rules during his service, he has already received his punishment and has already been discharged. There’s no need for him to re-enlist himself.”

Another anonymous Ministry of Defense representative said it was illegal to force Rain to re-enlist, according to the website allkpop.

“Rain’s re-enlistment is impossible,” the rep said.

“Rain, as well as other celebrity soldiers who have been discharged, has all lawfully completed their service…unless a violation has occurred within military service law, we cannot force re-enlistment.”

Congressman Kim’s spokesperson also clarified that Rain was not being singled out.

“One of the PR agents in question was Rain, but [Congressman Kim] is not just blaming Rain,” the spokesperson said.

Trouble began for the now defunct Promotional Support Brigade, a longtime bastion for pampered celebrities serving their mandatory enlistment, when a film crew from the news program “Scene 21″ captured famous soldiers serving as PR agents wandering the streets after curfew out of uniform, chatting on their cellphones and purchasing alcohol at 2 a.m.

K-pop singers Sangchu of the group Mighty Mouth and Se7en were filmed visiting a massage known for providing erotic services.

The pair was sentenced to 10-days in military jail last month, following a probe of the incident conducted by the Ministry of Defense.

Five other active recruits previously serving as PR agents were sentenced to a four-day incarceration at the military prison or “guardhouse” for using cellphones in the “Scene 21″ footage.

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 currently must enroll for between 21 and 24 months of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in) in a practice known as conscription.

Cha Seung Won Blames Himself For Allegations That His Son Cha No Ah Raped A Teenage Girl Cha Seung Won (pictured) took to the website me2day on Saturday to accept the blame for allegations that his 24-year-old son Cha No Ah raped a 19-year-old girl.

Cha Seung Won took to the website me2day on Saturday to accept the blame for allegations that his 24-year-old son Cha No Ah raped a 19-year-old girl.

“First, I would like to apologize to everyone for being a father who has failed to raise his children properly.” Cha wrote, according to the Korea Star Daily.

“Regardless of the facts of the matter, I bear a huge responsibility as the father of a son who had been mired in this. I can’t hide my sadness and hurt that I have right now, but I would like to express my deepest apologies to everyone once again.”

On Friday, Seoul Central Police locked up Cha No Ah on charges of not only raping the teen, who is reportedly still in high school, but also imprisoning her in his grandfather’s villa since April, according to the website allkpop.

“Mr. Cha [No Ah] locked her into a vacation house that his grandfather owned since April until now and sexually assaulted and threatened her multiple times,” said the prosecuting attorney.

The girl is reportedly traumatized, and is currently receiving psychological treatment.

Allkpop reader Anna34 is horrified.

“Locking her in a vacation house and assaulting her? This guy has the makings of a sociopath!” she wrote in the comments section of the website.

While reader Rookie-Crumbs is skeptical of the whole thing.

“I’m a little fuzzy on the details,” Rookie-Crumbs wrote.

“I think [the victim's] parents would have noticed that their daughter had been missing for roughly three months…in Korea it’s hard to go missing if you’re a student, for a long time, without someone noticing. They have such tight schedules.”

Reader Danieb feels bad that Cha Seung Won’s reputation has been tarnished for the actions of his son.

“Sad that its Cha Seung Won’s face that going to be used for articles and his reputation that will be ruined/harmed even though he did nothing wrong,” Danieb wrote.

“‘You can lead a horse to water, but not make him drink.’ Same should be said for your kids.”

A former fashion model, Cha Seung Won rose to fame as an actor for his role as an arsonist in the 2000 film “Libera Me.”

Other film and television roles followed, including his popular portrayal of egomaniacal star Dokko Jin on the romantic comedy series “The Greatest Love.”

Back in June, Cha No Ah was reportedly kicked out of an online gaming team he was involved in after being charged with using marijuana.
