[News] PSY Stands at the Forefront of Korean Tourism

PSY
[News] PSY Stands at the Forefront of Korean Tourism
“PSY will headline Korea’s efforts to increase tourism by introducing popular travel icons. Users will be able to actively interact with the campaign by uploading their own unique contents on Wiki Korea, which will become an online database about Korea Travel, just like Wikipedia.”

Global sensation PSY and the Korea Tourism Organization(KTO) launched an interactive campaign that will encourage tourism in Korea. TV commercials were released on June 3rd that highlight popular Korean food and tourist spots, such as Samgyeopsal, Banchan, Bulgeum, Cosmeroad, Olle-gil, and Dongdaemun.

In addition to the TV commercials, the campaign also launched ‘Wiki Korea through KTO’s tour portal site ‘BUZZ KOREA’ (www.ibuzzkorea.com). The website shows 27 items(Yasik, Susansijang, Bungeoppang, Pageon, Banchan, Samgyeopsal, Jeonju bibimbap, Tteokbokki, surasang, Jagalchisijang, Temple Stay, Olle-gil, Georieungwon, Dolharbang, Minsokchon, Pocha, bulgeum, Garosu-gil, Hongdaeap, Cheongdam-dong, BB cream, Jeontongsijang, Cosme Road, Gangnam, chak-syat, Dongdaemun) and borrowed elements from the renowned internet encyclopedia, Wikipedia. Users can submit their own opinions and questions about each item in different formats – video, text, or photo. KTO will select 8 users who upload the best contents on the website and reward them by taking them on a 7 day 6 night tour to Korea accompanied by popular Korean celebrities. Other rewards include a Samsung SMART Camera or a gift set for those who aren’t able to make it to the top eight

“This Year, we are determined to introduce Korean tourist icons. They will highlight Korea’s spirit (Ki), entertainment (Heung), and heart (Jeong), which are key elements of Korean culture. I’m sure that they can be loved worldwide. KTO’s new ambassador PSY is a global super star. His songs ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Gentleman’ showed great global appeal, having over 2 hundred million views worldwide. We believe we can leverage PSY’s global popularity to effectively promote tourism in Korea; and hence, will use the TV commercials, which are starred by PSY, to grab the attention of our global audience,” Charm Lee, CEO of KTO, said at a morning press release on June 3rd.

Over the past years, KTO hasn’t been afraid to use different strategies with its advertisements. In 2010, KTO selected Yong Jun Bae, a famous Korean Actor, to appeal to Japanese tourists. The next two years, Korea chose ‘2PM’ and ‘Miss A’ due to an increase in popularity of K-pop. Last year, the ‘Touch Korea’ campaign starred by actress Se-Young Park was nominated as one of the top 10 consumer-favorite advertisements by Singapore’s mass media group ‘MediaCorp’. Moreover, according to the ‘2012 Korea Tourism Advertising Effectiveness Survey,’ the rate of positive responses reached 86%.

“We will differentiate our strategy by connecting TV commercials and online promotions together in order to effectively engage users to learn about and visit Korea, said Charm Lee.

PSY as a guest on Radio 1!

For the second time, PSY has been a special guest on Radio 1. In this interview, PSY tries a popular British dish ‘toad in the hole’ for the first time.

Listeners were also allowed to send in questions, one of them being “What’s your favourite part of the UK?” where he jokingly replies “not the food, or the weather.”

As part of the interview, one of the Radio DJ’s Scott Mills mentions about PSY‘s impersonators. Scott had previously recorded a video of him dressed up as PSY and walked around Oxford Street in London to find out if people could tell the difference between PSY and an impersonator. Surprisingly enough, most of the public realized that he wasn’t PSY, with one person just shouting “Scott Mills?!”

[News] PSY Wows the Crowd at the “Social Star Awards”

The inaugural “Social Star Awards 2013” held at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by The Bay over three days from May 24 to 26 saw a star-studded line up that featured Aerosmith, Jessica Alba, Cee Lo GreenCarly Rae Jepsen, and PSY. It is the first of its kind to be held in celebration of the world’s social media superstars across multiple mediums such as YouTube, Facebook, Google, Twitter, and it covers almost all aspects of social entertainment, including music, TV, film, fashion, and sports.

To many’s surprise, Aerosmith did the opening set instead of the finale. They performed a total of three songs including “Crying“, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,” and “Walk This Way.” Since most of the awards winners weren’t present to accept the virtual trophies, guests sat through the two-hour long show laughing at funny videos and watching recorded winning speeches. At intervals, we were treated to live performances by Cee Lo Green, Eric Benet, and an amazing dance by Wreaking Crew Orchestra.

Last but no least, I finally saw the man of my dreams performing live for the first time! PSY certainly isn’t my prince charming but for some weird reason unknown even to myself, I actually had a dream about chasing after PSY for an autograph…Well, dreams often don’t make any sense, right? PSY performed “Gentleman” and the song that made him world-famous, “Gangnam Style,” before the show officially came to an end. Watch the video below to find out just how popular PSY is!

Special thanks to Starcount for inviting Soompi to cover the awards show.

SHINee Interview With “K-Star Day” [ENG]

shinee

Congratulations on 5 years, shining SHINee.

In the wake of their 5th year anniversary fan meeting, Special Party, SHINee Day, SHINee interviewed with K-Star Day at Arirang TV. The 5 members answered various questions, ranging from how they felt about their recent fan meeting to how it felt for the members to perform as one unit after main singer Jonghyun‘s unexpected break.

Breaking up the questions were clips from the fan meeting, including: various glimpses of their performances, Taemin performing the horse dance from Psy‘s Gangnam Style, and an aegyo competition between the members.

As they are answering questions, the members of SHINee give some memorable answers. Jonghyun said that it really hit him that they were celebrating 5 years as a group, when he arrived at the fan meet location and saw the huge banner hanging outside the building. At one point during the interview, rapper Minho remarked that it felt as if their debut date, May 25th of 2008, was just yesterday. I can say with full confidence that Shawols around the world feel the same way, Minho.

The Asian Dream Cup is back for its third year, and this time with a revamped list of special guests.

Led by superstar soccer player Park Ji Sung and the JS Foundation, the 3rd Asian Dream Cup will be held in Shanghai, China at the Hongkou Football Stadium, on June 23. Last year’s Asian Dream Cup was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The organiser, HS Media confirmed that idol group EXO-M, SHINee‘s Minho and global superstar PSY will be present at the event. Not only that, they recently revealed that members Kim Jong Kook and Gary of beloved variety show Running Man, will be joining the list of guests. It was reported that they will be participating in the game itself, joining Minho. The Running Man members are familiar with the game as this is not their first time. At last year’s game, the whole Running Man cast was present, with a few members partaking in the game.

The Asian Dream Cup is a charity football game, created with the purpose of promoting football (or soccer) throughout South East Asia. Anticipation is growing to see Park Ji Sung and the Running Man members go up against professional players from around the globe.

Are you looking forward to the game?
